Hand pressing flowers is a simple and effective way to preserve their beauty and create unique decorative pieces. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

What You'll Need

  • Flowers of your choice

  • Blotting paper or absorbent paper towels

  • Heavy books or flower press

  • Weights (such as bricks or heavy objects)

Step 1: Prepare the Flowers

  • Gently rinse the flowers under cool water and pat them dry with a clean, soft cloth.

  • Arrange the flowers between two sheets of blotting paper or absorbent paper towels, ensuring they are not overlapping.

Step 2: Press the Flowers

  • Place the flower-filled sheets between the pages of a heavy book or in a flower press.

  • If using a book, stack additional books on top to provide weight.

  • If using a flower press, tighten the screws to apply pressure.

Step 3: Allow Time to Dry

  • Leave the flowers to press for 1-2 weeks, depending on the thickness and moisture content of the flowers.

  • Check the flowers periodically and replace the blotting paper if it becomes damp.

Step 4: Remove and Store

  • Carefully remove the dried flowers from the press or books.

  • Store the pressed flowers in a cool, dry place, such as between the pages of a book or in an airtight container.

With patience and care, you can create beautifully preserved flowers that can be used in a variety of craft projects, such as greeting cards, bookmarks, or decorative displays. Enjoy the process of hand pressing and the unique results it can produce.
